  • 1 Lie on your back in the water. Keep your feet and the board facing the boat (board perpendicular to tow rope), and the rope in your hands resting over the center of your board. Make sure your knees are bent and you're facing the boat, with your board perpendicular to it.
  • 2 Keep back; the boat will pull you up. If you try to stand up, you'll fall over.
  • 3 Let the boat pull you up as it gains speed. Once you're up, you need to swing your dominant foot forward so that the front of your board is facing the boat. This step is one of the most difficult, and it takes a lot of practice.
  • 4 Get comfortable on your board. You may not get it the first few times, but after that, it's like riding a bike; you won't forget how to do it. Remember to keep the handle of the rope on the same side as your hip that's facing the boat.
  • 5 Try to put your weight on your heels or toes; the weight will cause you to go in that direction. Point the front of your board in the direction you want to go. After some practice, you should be able to easily go outside the wake and back.
