Mojo's Bar in Freo was packed with people on Sunday night for 'South of the Border' - an event organised by Ella MacNeill to raise money for the third year Arts Management students at WAAPA. It was a night of acoustic melodies, exquisite vocals & indie tunes from local bands 'South Street', 'Circuits of the Sun' and 'The Disguise', along with soloists Helen Shanahan and Ash Hendriks. It was a wide array of Perth talent – showcasing the local artists and their unique song writing and musical style. It was a collaboration of local musicians and emerging artists.

The night kicked off with Helen Shanahan with her guitar and indie tunes. Next up was Ash Hendriks – going solo for the first time since the other half of 'Wolves at the Door' headed off to travel. Her amazing song writing and musical talent shone through during her short but sweet set. Fremantle born band 'South Street' were up next and they bought their folk/pop tunes and fleeting three part harmonies – and got the toes tapping!

Then 'Circuits of the Sun' who describe themselves as 'unpredictable, with harmonies that will warm your soul', showed off their talent with an eclectic fusion of sounds. Band members include ex Spencer Tracey and Eskimo Joe band mates Lee Jones and Shaun Sibbes, along with ex Sleepy Jackson guys J. Cortez and Malcolm Clark joined by Tara Drosdowsky.

Finally 'The Disguise' treated us to some tunes inspired by the ideals of mid 90's post punk. The four piece band – lead by Matt Harley and his 'story telling' approach to vocals, along with Matt Milner on drums, Ambrose Nock on the guitar and the new addition, Ash Hendriks on the bass guitar, who brings her songwriting skills and captivating voice to the band.

With all that talent in one room, Mojo's was buzzing and it was great to see so many people down to support the local musicians. Keep your eye out for the above bands or you can check out their websites below and check out their music!

Circuits of the Sun have a very talented bunch of musicians in their band. They are worth going to see at a gig if you get the chance. I have seen them before and they were really good. It would have been a great gig to get a long too, as the local music scene is becoming a 'popular place to be'.

Was a great night, I liked both the bands, I'm rarely disappointed by the quality of the musicians at mojo's.
