Starring: Ben Affleck, Russell Crowe, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright-Penn
Director: Kevin Macdonald
Rated: M
Released: 28 May 2009

When Cal McAffrey (Crowe) covers a story for the major newspaper he works involving a death of a political figure, he comes to learn that this story will involve a good friend of his, Rep. Stephen Collins (Affleck). Cal and Della Frye (McAdams) team together to cover this political conspiracy involving an affair Collins had with the deceased and the reasons behind her suspected murder.

This movie is suspenseful and has delicious twists but it is really hard to connect with the film. At the end of it all it can be labelled mediocre. The acting was great, Crowe has stepped out of his cliché roles and actually impresses as he steps down from the super-assertive type character. With the success of previous work director Macdonald and writer Carnahan have had it’s a mystery they would go with an ending like this. However great the twists were the ending was a let-down. What they soon uncover will be THE anti-climax of all anti-climaxes.

Rating: 2/5
