This weekend is a great excuse to get together with all the petrol heads and cruise out of town for weekend of Rally cars, sports cars and rev head madness.
QUIT Targa West is one of the premier tarmac rallies in Australia. This weekend we begin stage 2 which roars through Western Australia.
On the 13/03/09 Quit Targa West revealed a Media Release stating that the entrants in this year’s event is the highest in the event's history.Event Director Bob Schrader“More than 20 interstate teams have nominated their interest in travelling to Perth to contest the event - an increase on the numbers from past years.”
Rd 1 - Rally Tasmania (14-15 February)
Rd 2 - Targa West (20-23 August)
Rd 3 - Classic Adelaide (18-22 November)
Friday the 21'st from 7:30 am you can view all the cars from Forrest Place and the Murray street Mall in pristine condition, all polished and ready to rev.
When you hear the engines beginning to rumble its time to take off to the RAC Driving Centre near the International Airport.
The first special stage will begin and race over the hills towards the trees of the John Forrest National Park. Followed down onto Kalamunda through the infamous Zig Zag and towards the waters of Mundaring Weir Road.
11.00am till 3.30pm Haynes Street, Kalamunda Town Centre will see the most amazing cars all lined up for a Rally Service. You can speak to the drivers who will tell you real life accounts of the racing they have just experienced. Not to mention having a peek around the cars condition depending on how nicely you can sweet talk the drivers in the small amount of time before they set off onto the next stage of the race.
On Friday Night the cars retire to a traditional "Show and Shine" public display along James and Lake street, Northbridge. You can get up close and personal with cars that the average person will only ever dream of owning.
Saturday and Sunday the speed and adrenaline increases as the stage flows round the corner into Chittering and Toodyay. Around the houses in Muchea and through the special stages in the Western Range and Bindoon.
From 11 till 1 pm Bindoon hosts another chance for a close up with the sports cars over the service park in the town centre sports oval before heading down to Toodyay where there is one more service stop in the Town Centre before tackling the long fast special stages.
Sunday Races through the stages of Saturday backing towards town and arrives in Perth's Burswood Entertainment Complex from 3.45pm onwards.
To make the most of it, or to keep the rest of the family entertained you could spend some time exploring the towns on route. There are a number of charming bakeries, fine wineries, arts and craft stores and restaurants along the way.
