The Western Derby, the one game NO AFL W.A. fan should miss. The beloved Eagles go head to head against an in-form Fremantle in recent Western Derby’s. Currently the standings are that West Coast leads the head to head clash 18-11. John Worsfold has played down expectation of his senior players this week calling for an even 4 quarter effort across the board from his charges while Chris Masten averaging 28 possessions in the last 5 weeks and becoming the first Eagle this season to be nominated for the NAB Rising star award. They will be without stars Dean Cox and Daniel Kerr due to injury for the star duo.
Fremantle come into this week’s derby with one of the youngest sides in the competition and that may prove vulnerable to their chances of winning a 5th straight derby. Matthew Pavlich comes back from injury after 2 weeks, while match winner Paul Haselby is also being considered by Mark Harvey and the coaching staff.
Both teams are out of finals contention so the focus of this game is bragging rights and there may be some blood spilled as both teams talk down the idea of a physical encounter. The bookies have favoured Fremantle on this occasion but the Eagles are no pushovers when it comes to the derby in W.A.
The fans and ticketholders have geared up themselves right across Perth and W.A. for this match as a state will stand divided on Saturday afternoon. Offices across the metropolitan area have been gearing themselves up and giving a bit of lip to each other to try and get their respective team over the line this weekend.
Who will win derby 30 and have new bragging rights?
I am a beloved Eagles fan through and through and will be cheering for them. GO EAGLES!!!
