Premier Alan Carpenter has unveiled plans to massively expand Perth's public transport system.
Mr Carpenter announced at the Labor party state conference today a 20 year blueprint for public transport in Perth and the southwest.
He also announced that six million dollars would be given to two companies to develop innovative technology to help reduce the state’s greenhouse gas emissions and provide greater energy security into the future.
The six million dollars will go towards the construction of a massive solar power station in Kalgoorlie and the development of an oil mallee harvesting machine.
Mr Carpenter’s new transport plan includes:
- Extending the northern suburbs railway to Butler and ultimately to Yanchep;
- Developing a mass transit service in the northeast metropolitan area;
- A new dedicated link for Ellenbrook, connected to Perth via the existing Midland line;
- A dedicated public transport service to the Perth airport;
- Extension of the Armadale line;
- New stations at South Perth;
- A high speed train service from Perth to Bunbury;
- New east-west linkages connecting major hospitals, universities, airports and retail centres in one integrated system.
The premier said a new project team would be established to deliver the vision.
