Each year the City of Fremantle produces a number of free events within the festival. In 2009 these events include;

Carnival Day
The Carnival Day incorporates a number of events including Village Vibes (2-3.30pm at the Main Stage) the Fremantle Festival Street Parade (4-5pm through the streets of Fremantle),
Freo Shuffle (5-6pm at the Main Stage) and Bhangra Dance Party (6-9pm at the Main Stage)
Main Stage on Esplanade Reserve (Marine Tce Fremantle)

Fremantle Community Fringe Festival
In addition to the main weekend of festival events, the Fremantle Community Fringe Festival includes a variety of community-initiated events, happening during the entire Fremantle Festival period (Saturday 7 – Sunday 15 November)
The Fringe Festival showcases the community, coming together to celebrate Fremantle and the creative spirit of its people.
Details of all the Fringe Festival events are also included in the Fremantle Festival program booklet, available at various locations in Fremantle and surrounding areas and online (see Program page for details) from Tuesday 20 October 2009.
History of the Fremantle Festival
The first Fremantle Festival was held in 1905, held to celebrate the introduction of electric light in Fremantle. Each festival builds on the tradition of celebrating the things that make Fremantle the unique place it is today.
